CHRISTMAS EVENTS A little plea on behalf of the Staff Team! “It’s coming up to your busy time Vicar!”
The weeks before Christmas are indeed a very busy time with additional activities and services involving schools and the local community groups. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet people whom we do not see often and we try and make best use of that opportunity. We also need time to prepare our Christmas services, not to mention Christmas shopping!! So, if we are not able to join you (or your group) for mince pies and a carol or two before Christmas, it’s not because we don’t care; it’s because we need to use our time elsewhere. Thank you for your understanding. (David)

The Congleton Youth Orchestra with Smallwood choir will be performing a Christmas Concert at St Peter’s on Sat 13th December at 7pm. A number of our young people are in the orchestra, do come & support them. Adults £5, under 16’s £2, under 5’s free. Georgina Withington has tickets.

Christmas postage – it has come to our attention that if we wish to promote the religious side of Christmas then, unfortunately, it is necessary for us to request these stamps specifically.

Christmas Charities stall on the 28th Nov. Heather wishes to thank all the volunteers (& staff) from all 4 Churches who helped hand out approx 270 cups of popcorn & 600 Christmas leaflets for our Team Services!!. “Good atmosphere, well worth being part of it, great Team effort Well Done”. Must do it again – are you free next year?

An opportunity not to be missed! On Sunday 14th December a group of people representing Congleton Team Parish will be manning a stall on Congleton Market – inviting people to our Christmas services, giving out balloons to children & generally smiling, chatting & being friendly to people who are browsing the stalls. You could
be part of this. We have 1 vacancy in the team from 8-10am (we don’t mind if you leave a bit early in order to get to Church). If you have never helped at the Car Boot outreach
why not take this opportunity to try it out. You will be supported by Heather & an experienced team & you will be amazed at how easy it is. Give Heather a ring on 278362 or Pauline Drew on 272315 we would love to hear from you.

The Diocese is running a course on Bereavement Ministry at Norbury Parish Church, Hazel Grove on Wednesday evenings from the end of January through February (5 weeks). Pauline Drew is thinking of attending – if you would be interested in going too, please contact her on 01260 272315. Details are in the December Diocesan News sheet.

NOTICES FROM ST STEPHEN’S
Funeral Verger(s) After many years of devoted service
Bill & Irene Carter have decided to step down from this important role in the life of our Church. Churchwarden John Fuller has taken the job on temporarily until a volunteer offers to help on a permanent basis. This is an interesting & not too onerous post providing an invaluable service to families & friends of the deceased. There is a fee payable. If you would like to know more about how YOU could help please have a word with John (275643) or Irene & Bill (277380).

Thank You to everyone who supported the coffee morning on Sat 15th November £320 was raised for the Macclesfield Oncology Department. Many thanks Cheryl Copeland & her Team.

The Church will be open from 9am on Sat 13th Dec for Christmas decoration. If anyone would like to donate a poinsettia plant perhaps in memory of a loved one, please let Irene Carter know by Wed 10th. Everyone is welcome to come along & enjoy the morning.

Church Family Christmas Cards – if you wish, instead of sending cards to members of St Stephen’s Church Family it would be nice to write one card to everyone, attach it to the Notice Board in the Pillar Room & give a donation (if you wish) in the box provided which will then be sent to the work of Crisis.
