St Peter's Memorial Plaques
The ALsager Family

This is another one of the intriguing plaques. It may be found in the north corner of the Vestry. What was the connection between Richard Alsager and this Church? Was this the original name for Surrey or an error ?

In memory of
Richard Alsager ESQ.
one of the elder brethren of the the trinity house.
representative of the eastern division of the county of Surry
who with self-denying zeal and uncompromising integrity
a the sacrifice of his health.
served his country in two successive parliaments,
commanding the esteem and affection of his friends,
and the respect of his political opponents.
to the amiableness and generosity of his natural disposition.
this sincere and unostentatious piety imparted a grace and tenderness,
which characterised the humbler disciple of the saviour whom he loved.
he peacefully entered into his eternal rest.
on Sunday the 17th of January 1841, the 60th year of his age,
his last words being
"thanks be to god who giveth us the victory
through our Lord Jesus Christ"
his mortal remains are deposited in his family vault
